Music Marketing ReviewHi5

Site Review:

Hi5 is another social networking site competing for the Myspace / Facebook market. Like most of these types of sites, you create a profile, befriend a bunch of strangers, and have the option of joining various groups. From a music marketing perspective, I'm sure there are opportunities to be had, although as far as I can tell there are no "band" profiles. You do have the option of adding an iLike application to your profile. That's about the only way I can see to add your music.

The profile layout is similar to Myspace, and you have the option of changing the "skin". As you are getting acquainted with the site interface, you need to be careful not to click on advertisements disguised as part of the profile editing options. I inadvertently clicked on an ad that I thought was my message inbox. I did find a number of groups catering to my particular musical genres, although only a few of them were very active. Most were already filled with band spam, too. Basically, this site is yet another Myspace clone, and the real question you have to ask yourself is if you want to take the time and effort to build up yet another "friend" list to try and market your band here. I created a profile, but without any sort of RSS blog import feature, and its lack of music focus, I doubt I will update it very often.
