The music pages at CNet's site Download.com have disappeared. If you try to visit an artist page at music.download.com, you are now redirected to the corresponding page (if one exists) at Last.FM.

After a bit of Googling, I finally found this enlightening post on the Last.FM blog:

I never realized that the two sites were owned and operated by the same company, and it makes sense from a business point of view to not run two competing sites that offer such identical content. However, they certainly did a piss-poor job of letting everyone know that this was coming.

Plus, it would be nice if there was some sort of easily-found page on the CNet site explaining the transition. Just in case you are wondering, although they are forwarding all visits to Last.FM, they are not moving any of the content over. So if you had a music artist page at Download.com, you'll now need to create an account at Last.FM and upload all of your content again.

This is a shame, as the Download.com site has a different target market than Last.FM, thanks to its software offerings, and I would suspect that the listener base was a bit more diverse. I was getting a good number of regular downloads there, too. Oh, well. Another one bites the dust.
