Music Marketing ReviewSoundUnwound

Site Review:

I've been playing around a bit with Amazon's new music wiki, called SoundUnwound. It automatically pulls info from Amazon's massive music catalog, and also allows users to edit and add to artist profiles.

Editing the profile for your band is easy enough, but my changes have not yet been approved. The site is moderated, and when you change any information within a profile it asks for a source. It doesn't, however, require a source. It's been a couple of since I submitted information, and their FAQ states that they review items in the moderation queue within about three business days. The FAQ also says that their touchy about adding content that may be copyrighted. On the bright side, this may prevent users from submitting copyrighted information that they don't have permission to post. However, it also leaves the actual owner of the information in an awkward spot, should he be submitting content for his own act. For my source notes, I simply stated that I was the owner of the content and that I was giving them permission to include my album cover images and bio. Time will tell if they accept that or not. I don't really understand what kind of other non-copyrighted information they expect users to post about bands that they like - reviews, perhaps...?

Update: Aug 25, 2009

It's been a few weeks, and it looks like about half of my updates made it into the site. The additional releases, album covers, artist photos and member credits were accepted and added. The tracklistings and label info for each release were apparently denied / removed. Not sure why, but I'm not going to waste my time adding them again. I'd rather my official homepage be more content rich anyways, if nothing else than for SEO purposes.
